Job Description
We are searching for an Automation Engineer that will design, fabricate, program, implement, support and improve production equipment and automation. They will be required to bring new processes from conceptualization to full industrialization. They must learn all functional aspects of assigned equipment, certify maintenance and provide production leadership on its correct operation and author the necessary procedures to ensure knowledge can be shared and retained. The position requires balancing of engineering accuracy and sense of urgency. Processes include rubber extrusion, 6-axis robots for material handling, injection molding, heated presses for rubber vulcanization, conveyors, waterjet, and automated ultrasonic cutting.
Key Responsibilities Include:
• Manage assigned projects with limited supervision:
o Document and outline project plans and tasks for individual team members;
o Ensure that implemented processes meet output goals and quality through trials and data collection;
o Document spare parts lists prior to Production implementation;
o Prepare documentation for Production training
• Perform mechanical design for assembly processes and End-of-Arm robot tooling (EOAT), including material and actuator selection, fabrication and assembly, as well as testing and validation. Experience with SolidWorks is preferred.
• Troubleshoot and program PLCs (RSLogix 5000), robots (FANUC), and HMIs (Allen-Bradley). Modify and improve existing programs as needed.
• Ensure all assigned processes are equipped with proper safety interlocks and guarding. Coordinate with maintenance on all issues to correct and maintain standards.
Skills/Qualifications
Required:
• Proven competence in mechanical design, automation integration, and project management.
• Preferred experience in mechanical fabrication using shop tools and/or control cabinet assembly. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
• Knowledge and proven competence in programming Allen-Bradley RSLogix 500 and 5000 systems as well as use of SolidWorks.
• Strong project management skills and proven experience as an effective team communicator with timelines, budgets and task completion.
• Experienced user of MS Office.
• Experience working with FANUC Industrial robots.
• Knowledge and working experience troubleshooting a wide variety of mechanical and electrical components in a manufacturing environment: pumps, pneumatic and hydraulic actuators, sensors, and safety controls.
• B.S. Degree or equivalent in Electrical, Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering.
• 1-3 years’ experience in a Manufacturing Engineering role performing the tasks described.
Preferred:
• Rubber Industry experience
